My work history isn't typical of a web developer.
But, I have a proven track record of recognizing problems, and using the web and other technologies to solve them.
Fusion Public Safety Systems, LLC: Owner
January 2009 - Present Day
Richmond, Virginia
Fusion Public Safety Systems is a company that I founded to help provide easy to use, cost effective hardware and software solutions to public safety agencies. I have directed the development of cliniTrack EMS, a web-based clinical education management system for EMT and Paramedic students.
I am responsible for software development, day-to-day business operations, and the research and development of new projects.
Richmond Professional Lab: Web Developer
November 2011 - Present Day
Richmond, Virginia
With Richmond Professional Lab, I took over as their in-house web developer, and immediately began a complete retooling of their web presence, moving away from an incredibly complex system of static pages, and implementing a custom Content Management System, as well as developing tools to streamline business operations as they relate to the web. I have also been responsible for Internet marketing, using a variety of tools for direct email and mobile marketing.
Virginia Commonwealth University: Police Officer
April 2008 - November 2011
Richmond, Virginia
As a Police Officer for VCU, I have worked diligently to provide a safe environment for faculty, staff, students, and other members of the university community. I have received many commendations for my work, and have distinguished myself as a thorough investigator, as well as being recognized for finding ways to apply technology to help prevent crime, as well as identify and apprehend offenders.
I am currently working on a project, tenatively titled "VCU RAMS (Register All My Stuff)", a web-based system that allows faculty, staff, and students to register their valuables with VCU Police, assisting investigators in identifying and recovering those items if they're stolen.
Richmond Ambulance Authority: Medic / Comms Specialist
June 2000 - April 2008
Richmond, Virginia
While with the Richmond Ambulance Authority, I provided emergency medical care to sick and injured patients while advancing from an EMT-Basic to an Advanced Life Support provider. I was cross-trained in communications, and worked on several emergency management and planning projects throughout my tenure. I developed operational plans and directed resources during high-profile events, such as Queen Elizabeth's visit to Richmond, congressional delegations, presidential visits, sporting events, and concerts.
While managing these large incidents, I identified problems with command and control, and solved those problems by developing a mobile Computer Aided Dispatch system, using the cross-platform nature of the web to allow users to rapidly and easily utilize the system.
Virginia Department of Corrections: Corrections Officer
July 2001 - October 2004
Powhatan, Virginia
As a Corrections Officer, I not only functioned as an officer and member of the institution's tactical team, but I immediately began to identify areas where technology could be used to fix the tedious and error-prone records management practices within the institution.
My major achievement was the development and deployment of CIMS, the Corrections Information Management System. CIMS replaced many tasks that were being handled on paper, and enhanced safety by allowing officers and other staff to have real-time access to information about inmate movement, activities, and history.
